Ode to Joy-Curly Coated Retriever

We live in the beautiful Rhineland in the city of Bonn, nestled between the Siebengebirge and Grafschafter Ländchen, crossed by the impressive Rhine. We are a family of four with now grown-up children. We have always had dogs living with us.

It all started with a rescued Yorkshire Terrier called "Bibi". Bibi was a real terrier in the best sense of the word, she loved sand, water, children, people and her collection of toys, she never needed a leash and secretly traveled around the bottom shelf of the stroller in the supermarket.

Then "Kira", a forest and meadow mix with a large portion of terrier, enriched our lives. Kira took away countless children's fear of dogs, she was a whiz and hated water. But she loved to race along the sidewalk alone next to the bike, waiting patiently at every street corner for the "hop" signal to cross the street.

After that, the retrievers moved in with us.

Our big "Maxi" was a big white Labrador from the Fieldtrail line.

Maxi was the dog for all occasions, crazy about water, crazy about people, incredibly patient, friendly and a real soul dog. When asked what the meaning of life was, a 10-year-old neighbor's child said: "The meaning of life is to know Maxi." Maxi was with us for a wonderful 15 years!

Maxi was then joined by our "Peppa", a black Lab girl who was 14 years old and unfortunately left us on March 31, 2023. She was not only enthusiastic about balls and tug toys, her true element was the water, she could swim incredibly far and long and had a special passion: diving for large stones.
